Obituary of Astro Perez Jr.
Mr. Astro A. Perez Jr., age 58 of Jacksonville, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017. Mr. Perez grew up in Jacksonville, one of seven children born to the late Astro A. and Elizabeth M. Joseph Perez Sr. He attended Nathan B. Forrest High School, where he played football, and was a member of the wrestling and weightlifting teams. At a young age, Mr. Perez decided to move to California, where he lived for the next thirteen years, becoming an excellent mechanic, and the manager of a Midas Muffler Shop. Upon his return to Jacksonville, to raise his family, he opened his own muffler shop near Mayport, called Astro's Muffler Depot. Mr. Perez was a very family oriented man and lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, and "old school" music. He also enjoyed sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Florida State Seminoles fan. He is survived by his daughters: Astra Perez (Angel Vega) of Jacksonville, Christina Torres of Tampa, Astre Perez of Jacksonville, and Patricia Perez of Tampa; son: Jose Raul (Sharyn) Gonzalez of Fleming Island; grandchildren: Damari Cole, Isaiah McCrae, Xiomara Vega-Perez, Diego Kurdo, Angel Vega-Perez, and Mia Kurdo; brother: James A. (Debra) Perez of Orange Park; and sisters: Lydia (Dave) Boldry of Glen St. Mary, Maria L. Perez and Lauren E. Perez both of Jacksonville, and Cheryl L. Paugh of Glen St. Mary. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Lila Perez Gedvillas. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Monday, August 14, 2017 in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home, Macclenny. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
